Lee Carter is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in individual, couples and family therapy, and maintains a private practice in Henrico County, Va. Having grown up in the Richmond area, Lee attended Virginia Commonwealth University to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1988 and her Master of Clinical Social Work in 1990. She has been a licensed therapist in the State of Virginia since 1993. Lee opened her private therapy practice in 2001 after having worked in outpatient and inpatient mental health facilities, as well as community mental health. Lee started her practice specializing in counseling adults experiencing grief or those coping with serious medical illnesses. Having extensive experience working with the emotional impacts of anticipatory grief, chronic and terminal illnesses, Lee often works with patients and families prior to a loss. She has numerous continuing education hours of training in grief, bereavement and trauma.
In addition to grief and bereavement, Lee also works with adult clients struggling with daily life stresses to help empower them to make positive change and find healthy ways to cope. You will often hear Lee use the words BALANCE, SELF-CARE and EMPOWERMENT during sessions. Lee sees many clients living with depression and anxiety due to having to adjust to their environment and current life situations, whether it is from marital issues, family issues or job stresses. She practices and teaches mindfulness and meditation techniques to try to decrease the impact of the stress.
